With vocals from the late Detroit soul great Belita Woods on the A and his late sister-in-law leni may on the B, these mid 80s cuts from the fretless bass boogie virtuoso Lamont Johnson had been thought for decades to be lost to time.
But the master tape for “Burnin’ part 2” and “Burnin’ part 3” has rediscovered and both tracks are being released as a limited 7” for the first time ever on any format.
On the a-side, “Burnin’ part 2” perfectly encapsulates Lamont and Belita’s musical partnership – one that dates back to the brainstorm days – with Lamont’s confident bass groove and Belita’s smoldering multi-tracked vocals taking center stage.
Then on the b-side, “Burnin’ part 3” finishes with a maximal funk cut. While lacking the clarity of its a-side, is a sweaty lost boogie classic even with its bit of true Detroit grit.
