Nearly fifteen years ago, on the weekend of Barack Obama’s inauguration in January of 2009, Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin threw the very first Mister Saturday Night at Santos Party House downtown in New York City. By autumn of that year, Harkin and Carter had moved into lofts, warehouses and other DIY spaces in Brooklyn. In 2011, they started Mister Sunday in a back yard on the banks of the Gowanus Canal.

Both parties continued in makeshift venues and temporary spaces through 2015, when Harkin and Carter opened Nowadays. In 2016 the Nowadays back yard became the permanent home for Mister Sunday, and in December of 2017, Nowadays opened as the full indoor/outdoor club/community space/bar/restaurant that it is now. Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday have continued through the growth of Nowadays, which has become a cornerstone and home base for the NYC dance music underground as it has emerged from the long wake of 9/11, the 90s culture wars and Giuliani crackdowns.

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the party that started that journey, we’re releasing a box set of fifteen cassettes with performances from artists who’ve played the party over the years. Aurora Halal, Soul Summit, Floating Points (a recording of his first ever gig in the States), Avalon Emerson, Rena Anakwe, Tama Sumo, Ash Lauryn, Suso Saiz (a live performance from Carter and Harkin’s deep listening series, Planetarium), Optimo (a recording from 2010 with Sal P from Liquid Liquid jumping on the mic and singing “Optimo”), musclecars, OK Williams, CCL and Physical Therapy have all contributed, book-ended by mixes from Eamon and Justin themselves.
